Complex interactions between plants and their environment have always fascinated me. While research often focuses on aboveground dimensions, my fascination lies belowground. There, I am particularly interested in plant fungi interaction, which is why I have decided to work on plant soil feedbacks for my master thesis.
Specifically, looking into how climate variables interactively shape plant soil feedback outcomes and how this ties into coexistence dynamics of deciduous trees. For this experiment, we are using a combination of field and common garden experiments, where trees are grown both by themselves and in pairs. The soils on which they grow have been conditioned by either conspecifics or allospecifics. Hopefully, the tree response to to these soil and partner treatments in different environments will allow us to untangle the complex interactions between plants, soil, and climate.
